Life can be hard to understand on a good day, but for a child who has a sibling with a disability or special need, it can be even tougher. Trying to understand what it means for a sister to have autism, why it appears no other kid at school has a brother with down's syndrome, or why mom and dad spend so much time with little brother Billy just because he has cancer can leave a child feeling confused and maybe, a little lonely.
That's why Lutheran Children's Hospital and Easter Seals Arc of Northeast Indiana offer Sibshops, a fun, highly interactive workshop for children who have siblings with disabilities. At Sibshops, kids get support from other kids who are dealing with the same situations. They can talk openly about their feelings, share their joys and concerns and learn how their peers handle life at home, all while serving as a source of information and comfort in return.
